With a sizzling selection of songs from Stoke’s favourite son on offer to players of Nordic Games’ top quality title we take a karaoke style journey through the career of Robbie Williams.
Whether you want to admit to it or not everyone the world over knows the word’s to at least one Robbie William’s song. You have to credit the re-united Take That star for his continued popularity and success in a business that see’s class at the top of the charts one minute, and absolute trash the next. So when Nordic Games and the fan’s firm favourite decided to get together and bring a collection of his greatest hit’s spanning his 25 year career at the top of the hit parade to the Nintendo Wii, all we have to say is fair play to them both and why any other developer had not thought of this sooner is, quite frankly, beyond us? So hat’s off to Nordic for this foresight in game’s development and for pressing forward with the best edition of the popular Wii title to hit the retail shelves as yet.
The gameplay is the standard format of the franchise that has made it so popular with warbling wannabee’s of all ages. You select your tune of choice from the top-notch song list supplied by Mr Williams and from there you attempt to follow the tune in a karaoke-stylee. There are any number of modes for you to choose to perfect your performing prowess as you pick from ‘hot mike,’ ‘pure karaoke.‘ ‘ elimination’ and ‘score attack’ to name but a few. Whichever mode you do decide on will not affect your enjoyment of the title as thanks to some sterling work by the developers the game looks as good as it sounds and plays even better.
As stated earlier the gameplay follows the familiar format of previous We Sing titles. So basically all you have to do to score well on the forgiving system is sing along to the lyric’s to any one of the massive collection of Robbie hit’s as you watch the accompanying video whilst attempting to time your pitch and notes to the indicated bars that scroll along your screen in time to the music. It really is that simple, and the game is all the better for it. As we stated in a previous review of another of the Nordic We Sing titles, this is not the exacting format adopted by more precision based titles such as the punishing Lips or Singstar series of games, this is the gentle and soothing sounds and set up of the We Sing franchise.
Robbie himself does put in appearance in the title in the form of his WiiMii character that adopts various outfits from his famous Kiss-style Let Me Entertain You phase as well as his footie strip ensemble that the star sported during his Sing When You’re Winning period. Players will also be treated to complimentary comments from the singing superstar if they perform well enough during any one of the numerous vocal training sessions in the single player solo mode, or during the party play that will be the family favourite at every event and get together from this day forward upon purchase of the title.
Once you embark upon your solo experience of the game you will discover that for fan’s and first time players there are a wealth of achievements, trophies and unlockables all just waiting for you to uncover in the game. So attempt to perfect your renditions of Angel’s and Rock DJ as quickly as possible as you will be rewarded with points for your efforts, and as everyone knows ‘points make prizes.‘ The prizes which we speak of in the case of We Sing Robbie Williams are some first-rate unlockables and bonus content that are previously unavailable in the game.
Fan’s of Robbie Williams are going to have a ball with Nordic Games excellent party atmosphere title, but that’s not to say that those gamers who pick up the musical celebration will not thoroughly enjoy the experience too. There is something here for everyone., as we discovered in the office as we wailed and whooped along to the showman’s song list with all the gusto of an X-Factor finalist.
Great songs that cover every aspect and era of the one man hit machines’ career are to be found here with everything on the track list from the stunning Feel to the hauntingly beautiful Angel’s. Some of the games special features will have players glad they decided to purchase this title such as the cracking coverage of the star’s open-air concert at Knebworth in 2003. Not to mention the fact that every song in the awesome 25 track line up is accompanied by the original video along with the cracking collection of intimate photograph’s in the star’s gallery.
