Bigpoint (http://www.bigpoint.com/) – the global market leader in browser-based massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) – is readying the open beta launch of Battlestar Galactica Online. Based on Syfy’s widely popular science-fiction television series, Battlestar Galactica Online (http://battlestar-galactica.bigpoint.com//) is a free-to-play, browser-based space combat MMOG that combines high-quality, 3D graphics with intense gameplay.
“We’re excited to release Battlestar Galactica Online to players around the world,” said Heiko Hubertz, CEO and Founder, Bigpoint. “The team behind this revolutionary title has poured a tremendous amount of energy and passion into its development. We’re eager to begin collecting feedback directly from the worldwide fan community, which is vital to the game’s optimization during the open beta phase.”
When launched, Syfy will be Bigpoint’s exclusive media partner for a period of six weeks and will have exclusive marketing rights in the US (http://www.syfy.com//) and UK (http://www.syfy.co.uk/battlestar-galactica-game) for a one week period. Syfy Universal will also make the game available on its other international websites in Germany (http://www.syfy.de/battlestar-galactica-game), France (http://www.syfyuniversal.fr/battlestar-galactica-online), Spain (http://www.syfyuniversal.es/battlestar-galactica-juego), Poland (http://www.scifiuniversal.pl/battlestar-galactica-game), and Russia (http://www.syfyuniversal.ru/battlestar-galactica-game). Additional Syfy Universal international websites will be added in the weeks following launch.
In developing Battlestar Galactica Online, achieving the highest level of detail and accuracy was a design requirement. Assets from the television series have been incorporated into the game, including non-player characters (NPCs) based on popular characters Number Six, Boomer, Starbuck, Admiral Adama, Chief Tyrol, John Cavil, and Leoben Conoy. In the game, players can customize their human or Cylon avatars, engage in PvE and PvP space combat, complete missions, conduct mining operations, and explore capital ships, outposts, and bases.
Battlestar Galactica Online is licensed through Universal Partnerships & Licensing on behalf of NBC Universal Television Consumer Products Group.
